Abstract

After the dissolution of SFR Yugoslavia, between the former Yugoslav republics arose the problems concerning the delimitation of territory. These problems exists between almost all states individually. The issue of borders after the collapse of one federal state, as was Yugoslavia, creates major problems, which only can be solved by applying two principles – demarcation and the self-determination of the people. Methods for solving these problems are different. But, in international law there is no a general rule, according to which the retreating border between the states. In this paper, the author deals with the abovementioned disputes and with certain issues related to the territorial demarcation in some EU countries. Whether the EU can guarantee resolution of these disputes is main issue raised in the paper, given that many disputes are not resolved in the countries that are longer or shorter time EU members.
